Water damage in a home can occur because of pipes bursting or freezing, a sewer backup, and negligent or accidental water damage. Water damage happens in homes all over Ontario, but homeowners that live near a body of water can be more at risk. This happens because water levels rise bringing water into the home.
Basement water damage usually destroys finishes and contents so it’s important to know about the coverages in your insurance policy for water damage as soon as possible. Just because something hasn’t happened doesn’t mean you shouldn’t properly prepare. You need to make sure you have coverage for a sewer backup, and water damage in your home. A review of your home insurance policy is a good first step, but you can always call your insurance company.
