Many people avoid calling their home insurance company to disclose facts that may be relevant to their insurance policy. The reason you need to call is because if something were to happen and the insurance company thought you purposely hid something from them, they might be able to deny a claim on your home insurance policy.
The goal here is to make sure your home insurance company is aware at all times of any major repairs to your home, you going on vacation for prolonged periods of time, or anything else that you think they might want to know. When in doubt, pick up the phone and make a quick call to your insurance broker.
